- Low water pressure at one faucet - clogged aerator or partially-closed supply valve
- Leak at the base of the faucet - failed O-ring or housing seal
- Loose or wobbly handle - retaining nut backed off, escutcheon screws loose, or stem damage
- Sprayer won't divert - clogged diverter valve in pull-down kitchen faucets
- No hot water at one faucet, fine everywhere else - failed cartridge or stuck shutoff valve
- Sputtering flow - air in the line after a repair, or supply line obstruction
- Outdoor hose bib won't fully close - common after a freeze; the seat or stem washer is damaged
When to Repair vs. Replace a Faucet
Repair makes sense when the faucet body is in good shape and the failure is a wear-item part (cartridge, O-ring, aerator, sprayer). Replace when the faucet is older than about 15 years, the finish is failing visibly, parts are no longer available for the model, or you've already replaced cartridges multiple times. Modern single-handle ceramic-disc faucets last 15-20 years; older washer-style faucets fail more frequently and parts are getting harder to find.
New Faucet Installation Process
Most kitchen and bath faucet installations take 60-90 minutes. We shut off the supply, drain the lines, disconnect the old faucet, clean the deck or wall, install the new fixture per the manufacturer's instructions, replace the supply lines with new braided stainless if the existing lines are old, reconnect, level, caulk where appropriate, and pressure-test. If the existing shutoff valves are corroded or won't fully close, we recommend replacing them while everything is apart.
Outdoor Faucets & WNC Frozen Pipe Risk
Outdoor hose bibs in Western NC fail predictably each winter. Higher-elevation neighborhoods see harder freezes than the city average, and pipes inside attached garages, crawlspaces, and exterior north-facing walls take the hit. The classic failure pattern: water freezes in the bib's pipe stub, expands, splits the pipe behind the wall, and you don't know until it thaws and water starts running down a wall inside the house.
Prevention is cheap. We install frost-free anti-siphon hose bibs that hold the shut-off point inside the heated envelope of the house. If you have a split pipe from last winter, we replace the section and install a frost-free bib so it doesn't happen again. For broader winter prep, see our general plumbing services or call to schedule a winter inspection.

Faucet Repair & Installation FAQs - Buncombe & Henderson Counties
How much does faucet replacement cost in Asheville?
Cost depends on the faucet you're installing, whether the shutoff valves and supply lines are reusable, and accessibility under the sink. We provide a written, flat-rate quote before any work begins.
Can you bring the new faucet, or do I provide it?
Either works. If you tell us the model on the phone, we'll pick it up and bring it. If you've already bought one (HD, Lowes, online), that's fine - we install whatever you have.
Why does my faucet drip even after a repair?
Usually means the cartridge wasn't the only worn part - the valve seat or housing has also worn or pitted. Replacing the seat or the entire faucet body resolves it. For older faucets where parts are getting hard to find, replacement is often more economical than chasing the leak.
Is my outdoor faucet leak a frozen-pipe issue?
Often yes, especially if you noticed it after a hard winter. A pipe behind the bib can split during a freeze and only leak once temperatures rise and the ice plug melts. We can inspect, replace the damaged section, and install a frost-free bib so the same failure pattern doesn't repeat next winter.
How long does a new faucet installation take?
Most installations take 60-90 minutes once we have access to the shutoff valves. Tight cabinet access under a kitchen sink occasionally adds time, but most jobs finish in a single visit.
