Rinnai is one of the most widely installed tankless water heater brands in the country, and it is a regular on our trucks. We install new Rinnai units, convert homes from a storage tank to Rinnai tankless, and repair existing Rinnai systems throughout Asheville and Western NC. We are not a factory-certified Rinnai dealer, and we won't claim to be - what we bring is a high volume of hands-on Rinnai installs and repairs and two P1 Master Plumbers who know these units well.
Rinnai Models We Work With
Rinnai's residential lineup covers a range of homes and fuel setups. The lines we install and service most often:
- RU / SENSEI series - Rinnai's condensing tankless units, high efficiency and a common choice for whole-home hot water
- RX series - higher-output condensing models for larger homes and heavier simultaneous demand
- RL series - non-condensing units, often a fit for straightforward replacements where venting allows
- Demand Duo - a hybrid tankless-plus-tank system for homes that want tankless efficiency with a buffer of stored hot water
Which model fits depends on your fuel (natural gas or propane), your hot water demand, and your venting. We size it to your home rather than selling one model to everyone.
Why Homeowners Choose Rinnai
- Japanese-engineered - Rinnai has a long global track record in tankless technology
- Condensing and non-condensing options - so the unit can be matched to your budget and venting rather than forcing a one-size approach
- Recirculation compatibility - many Rinnai models support recirculation for faster hot water at distant fixtures
- Long heat exchanger warranties - Rinnai offers up to a 15-year warranty on the heat exchanger of some residential models; the exact term depends on the unit
Endless hot water, a compact wall-mounted footprint, and a long service life are the reasons homeowners move to Rinnai tankless in the first place.
Installation Considerations
A Rinnai install is more involved than swapping a tank. The gas line often needs to be sized up to feed the burner's peak demand, the venting has to be correct for a condensing or non-condensing unit, and a condensing model needs a condensate drain. In Western NC, fuel type matters too - much of Asheville has natural gas, but many outlying homes are on propane, which changes the sizing. On well water or harder water, we recommend a sediment filter or water softener and periodic descaling to keep the heat exchanger clear. Getting all of this right is exactly where a licensed install pays off.

Rinnai Tankless FAQs - Buncombe & Henderson Counties
Rinnai vs. Navien - which is better?
Both are strong tankless brands and we install and service both. Rinnai has a very long track record and a broad lineup of condensing and non-condensing units; Navien is known for high efficiency and built-in recirculation on many models. The better choice usually comes down to your fuel, venting, and hot water demand rather than the badge. We will give you an honest comparison for your home.
What is the difference between condensing and non-condensing Rinnai units?
Condensing models capture extra heat from the exhaust, so they run more efficiently and can use less expensive venting, at a higher upfront cost. Non-condensing models are simpler and cost less upfront but need metal venting and run slightly less efficiently. We match the type to your venting and budget.
Does a Rinnai tankless support recirculation?
Many Rinnai models are recirculation-compatible, which gets hot water to distant fixtures faster and cuts the wait at the tap. Whether it makes sense depends on your plumbing layout, and we can advise on it.
Do you service older Rinnai units?
Yes. We repair and maintain older Rinnai tankless units as well as current models, including descaling, error-code diagnosis, and component replacement, as long as parts remain available for the model.
